Anyone who really knows me, knows that I'm super into Cryptozoology, the paranormal, the supernatural ect everytime I watch a documentary show on the subject matter I think to myself "I want to paint that" SOOOO I did. I started a cryptid/supernatural/paranormal/urban legend series. The first in this new series being the delightfully creepy, Black Eyed Kids.
The black eyed kids are an urban legend and phenomenon of people having strange encounters with kids or at least child like creatures, whose eye's are entirely black with super pale skin. These kids are said to range between the ages of around 6 and 16. No one knows for certain what they are but are hypthesised to be anywhere from a supernatural creature to demons in the guise of children, aliens or even vampires. These beings are said to ooze an overwhelming sense of fear and panic over you as they insist upon entering your vehicle or home, but whatever you do, don't invite them in! They can not enter if you don't invite them in...polite little critters aren't they?
Feelin brave? Go ahead and read some stories about encounters with these beings. The link below is just one article of supposed encounters but go ahead and google some ;)

Funny thing is while I was reading and doing research on the Black Eyed Kids...and sketching...and painting this artwork, I was helping my best friend and neighbor take care of a sick kitten. My duty was feeding the kitten a few times a night from around 1am to 6am so I was often leaving my house in the dead of night. I'm not one to get freaked out at all but after reading countless encounter stories about the Black Eyed Kids and then having to leave my house at 4am, I found myself thinking "If I see a child right now I'm drop kicking them and running into the house no questions asked" LMAO I never did see anything or anyone suspicious, which not gonna lie, kinda disappointing actually.
Anyway...the Black Eyed Kids usually travel in pairs, one older and one younger (more rarely, a small group) so I depicted my Black Eyed Kids as the usual, one older and one younger and to get that extra creep feeling I added a few silhouetted kids in the background. I depicted my black eyed kids as male but I do plan on doing another painting in the future depicting female black eyes kids.
Now answer me this...Have you ever seen a black eyed kid?
